₿trust, a non-profit organization backed by Twitter/X co-founder and Bitcoin advocate Jack Dorsey, has acquired the African Bitcoin organization Qala.

The primary goal of this acquisition is to promote the development and education of Bitcoin open-source engineers, particularly in regions of the Global South.

Qala has created one of the largest online communities of Bitcoin developers in Africa, spanning 42 countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, and Uganda.

Graduates from Qala's programs have gone on to secure positions at Bitcoin-native firms such as Galoy, SphinxChat, and Bitnob, in addition to receiving open-source grants from ₿trust and Superlunar.
